The Story of Angel
I
discovered Angel Eyes at Captain Dick’s Dummy Depot in Seattle in
January 1996. The man who commissioned her died before ever reaching the
stage and she linguered in the dummy depot pining for a partner. Crafted
in Basswood by a superlative craftsman, Chuck Jackson, I knew she was
the one on first sighting. I was at theatre school in Paris and on seeing
Angel’s photo I rang Captain Dick to ask if I could buy her. He
put down the phone and went and asked her. Fortunately the answer was
yes and she arrived in Orly Airport a month later.
In September 2000 I went on a three month trip to Hollywood to find Angel’s roots. At the local church I bumped into a lady who believed she was Angel’s mother and adopted us for the next three months as we pieced together Angel’s background.
